About WineJoys

The smartest way to discover, identify, and remember the wines you love.

WineJoys is a modern wine discovery platform built for people who love wine but don’t love wine snobbery. We combine AI-powered bottle scanning, a curated directory of American wineries, and editorially-written guides to help you find your next favorite bottle, identify a mystery wine, and learn enough to drink confidently anywhere.

Our Mission

Wine should be more accessible than it is. There are roughly 11,000 wineries in the United States, more than 250 American Viticultural Areas, and tens of thousands of unique bottlings produced every year. The information is out there, but it’s scattered across dozens of sites, written for collectors, and gatekept by jargon that pushes new drinkers away.

We started WineJoys to build the opposite: a single, beautifully simple place where you can search wineries by state, scan a bottle on the fly, save favorites, and learn the just-enough-to-be-useful version of every wine topic. No 90-point scores, no condescending tasting-room voice, no upsell. Just better wine, faster.

How the Bottle Scanner Works

Our bottle scanner uses a state-of-the-art vision model to read a wine label and extract:

  • Producer / winery name
  • City, state, and region
  • Vintage year
  • Wine type (red, white, sparkling, rosé)
  • Grape varietal or blend
  • Alcohol content
  • Appellation and sub-AVA
  • Estimated price range
  • Tasting notes and production details
  • A confidence score so you know how certain the result is

You can read more about how wine identification apps work or try it yourself in a couple of seconds.

The Winery Directory

Our winery directory covers wineries in all 50 states, normalized so you can filter by state and search by name. We focus on small and mid-sized American producers as well as the household names — every state from California to New York to Texas is represented. Each entry includes city, region, grape varieties, and a quick description.

Editorial Content You Can Actually Use

Most wine writing assumes you already know what you’re doing. Ours doesn’t. Our blog covers practical, evergreen wine topics in plain English:

The iOS App — Coming Soon

Planned features at launch:

  • One-tap bottle scanning with offline-friendly caching
  • Personal wine journal with notes and ratings
  • Cloud sync across devices (free)
  • Winery discovery by location and style
  • Share-a-bottle links so friends can see what you’re drinking without needing the app
  • Wine pairing suggestions from your camera roll

Check back on the WineJoys home page for the launch announcement.

Privacy & Security

We don’t require an account to use the website, the bottle scanner, or the winery directory. Your favorites are stored locally in your browser. We do not sell user data. Images you scan are sent to our AI vision provider for analysis and are not retained beyond the duration of the request. For full details, see our FAQs.
