Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 19, 2026

WineJoys is operated by Webair AI LLC (“Webair AI,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy describes what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to the WineJoys website at winejoys.com and to the forthcoming WineJoys mobile applications (collectively, the “Services”).

Short version — Browsing the website needs no account. The WineJoys app requires an account (Email, Google, or Apple) so your wine journal, cellar, and tasting notes sync and back up. We don’t sell your data and we don’t show third-party ads. Wine photos you scan are analyzed by our AI provider (OpenAI) and stored in your private account. You can export or delete everything at any time.

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Account information

  • Account identifier. Using the WineJoys app requires an account. You can sign in with email and password, Google, or Sign in with Apple. Depending on the method and what you allow, we receive an account identifier and your email address (which may be an Apple private relay address) and name. We use these to create and secure your account and to sync your data across devices.

1.2 Content you create

  • Wine bottle and wine-list photos you scan. Photos are sent to our AI vision provider (OpenAI) to identify the wine, and the photo and the analysis are stored in your private account (Google Firebase) so your scan history and bottle images are available to you across devices. You can delete them at any time.
  • Your wine journal, cellar, and tasting notes — ratings, notes, occasions, prices you paid, tags, “buy again” flags, cellar quantities and locations, and saved wineries. This is stored in your private account and synced.
  • Taste profile. Your onboarding answers and a learned model of your preferences (derived from the wines you rate) are stored to personalize recommendations and explanations. This is used only to serve you — never sold or used for advertising.
  • Email address if you write to us at hello@webair.ai. We use your email solely to respond to your inquiry.

1.3 Subscriptions

  • Purchase status. If you buy WineJoys Premium, the purchase is processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple sends us subscription status events (e.g. started, renewed, expired) so we can unlock premium features and show your status. We store your current entitlement (tier, status, renewal/expiry date) in your account.

1.4 Information automatically collected

  • Standard server logs — IP address, user-agent, request timestamps, and status codes — collected by our hosting and backend providers (Vercel and Google Firebase) for security, abuse prevention, and service operation.
  • Rate-limit metadata used to enforce fair, generous usage limits and prevent abuse of paid AI APIs.
  • Analytics — the website uses Ahrefs Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics product. The app may use Firebase’s aggregated, privacy-respecting analytics to understand feature usage. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

2. How We Use Data

We use the data described above only to:

  • Operate and maintain the Services.
  • Identify wines you ask the bottle scanner to analyze.
  • Prevent abuse, fraud, and excessive use of paid AI APIs (rate limiting and security logging).
  • Understand aggregate site usage so we can improve the product.
  • Respond to support requests you send us.

3. What We Do Not Do

  • We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
  • We do not show third-party ads or share your data with advertising networks.
  • We do not use your content to train third-party AI models. OpenAI’s API policy is not to train on data submitted via the API.
  • We do not lock you in. You can export your full wine history as CSV, or delete your account and all its data, at any time.

Website note: the public website’s bottle scanner is a stateless demo — images submitted there are analyzed and not stored by us. Persistent scan history and bottle images are a feature of the WineJoys app, where they are saved to your private account as described above.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third parties to operate the Services:

  • Google Firebase — provides authentication, the database that stores your account, journal, cellar, and taste profile, file storage for your scan photos, and the backend that runs our AI features. See Firebase’s Privacy & Security.
  • OpenAI — processes wine label / wine-list images and text to identify wines, generate plain-English tasting notes and pairings, and power search. OpenAI’s API policy is not to use API inputs to train its models. See OpenAI’s Privacy Policy.
  • Apple — processes In-App Purchases and Sign in with Apple. We never receive your payment details. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — hosts the website and its serverless API.
  • Ahrefs — provides cookieless website analytics.
  • RapidAPI / Wine Explorer — used to enrich wines with community ratings and facts (no personal data is sent).

Each of these vendors has its own privacy practices. We choose vendors that align with this policy.

5. Children’s Privacy

The Services are intended for users of legal drinking age (21+ in the United States). We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13, and we will delete data we discover was collected from a child. Contact us at hello@webair.ai if you believe we have such data.

6. Data Retention

  • Account & content (journal, cellar, scan photos, taste profile): retained while your account exists. Deleting your account removes all of it (see Section 7).
  • Website scanner images: not stored by us after analysis.
  • Subscription status: retained while your account exists for billing/entitlement accuracy.
  • Server logs & rate-limit data: retained briefly for security and abuse prevention.
  • Email correspondence: kept as long as needed to handle your request and for reasonable record-keeping.

7. Your Rights — Access, Export & Deletion

Your wine history belongs to you. In both the app and on this website (Account page) you can:

  • Export your data — download your full journal and cellar as CSV at any time, free forever.
  • Delete your account — permanently delete your account and all associated data (journal, cellar, saved wineries, scan photos, taste profile). This is immediate and irreversible.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, and the EU General Data Protection Regulation — including the rights to access, correct, delete, port, and restrict processing of your data. To exercise any of these, use the in-app / website controls above or email hello@webair.ai and we will respond within 30 days.

8. Security

We protect data with industry-standard practices including TLS for transit, server-only API keys, scoped database credentials, per-route rate limiting, and a strict Content Security Policy. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to security@webair.ai.

9. International Users

The Services are operated from the United States. By using the Services, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will indicate the updated date at the top of this page and, for material changes, provide additional notice via the website or app.
